WE HAVE A PRETTY GOOD THING GOING.
It all
started in March of 2009, when we locked eyes across a Skadden Arps conference
room in Times Square. It was the Boston College Law School Admitted Students
Event for the New York area, and Rob had arrived late. He made a beeline for
the free food, and then turned his sights to me and my circle of temporary
acquaintances. When it came time for everyone to say where they went to college, Rob said, "Washington University in St. Louis." I
dramatically grabbed his arm and asked what year. "2008" was the
response. It turns out that not only did we go to the same school at the same
time - where we had more mutual friends than we could count - we also grew up
less than thirty minutes away from each other in New Jersey.
The
event ended but our conversation continued until the late hours. Our first
official date was a few days later, and we walked more than forty blocks from one end of New York to the other. A couple months later we trekked through Peru, where Rob confessed his love for the first time when he thought he was dying from altitude sickness. After that, we decided on BC for law
school and lived in Boston for three years to pursue the ill-advised dream of
becoming lawyers. We traveled across the world, from Spain to China to
Taiwan (with plenty more places to go). We ate a LOT of food in strange places and at strange hours - some of
it indulgent, some of it really weird, and almost all of it delicious.
And after all of that, we've grown to be really quite fond of each other.
